Project 1 self-reflection

The prisma-colour challenged me in more way then one, I had to find I saw dear to myself before even starting. That by itself was a task to recon with...though by the end of it all I found what represents me the most. Even though it seemed odd I enjoyed drawing them because it was not just a reflection of myself but a reflection of how I can handle a new median. With the new median and the references that reflect me I took this as a chance to attempt to put my pencil skills into it all.

After a few sketches using the new median I grew comfortable with it immediately and greatly enjoyed the mixing of the colors. The prisms-colors were a totally new experience for me from which I greatly needed to expand my skill as an artist. I see I needed I need to test with prisms-colors and i will use this median to work with later on.
This was my third time using oil paints. I tested it with painting an apple, I was pleased with how the oils mixed and blended. This median turned out to be really messy and some-what hard to deal with. Even though it was the third time using this median it was a challenge as well as a pleasure to work with. I may not use this median in the future due to its difficulty with staying in one area and not on my clothes. I may use this median with one or two more projects. I will take the other opportunities to practice oil paints on other projects.

Well i wanted to put some humor into this project by stating what could be the most obvious thing i could think of; it shows the fact that apple has risen and other companies have been closed or bought-out. This demonstrates time by having our dearly dead Steve jobs unfinished but still dancing on the graves of the other companies. What i used for this project was a ton of paint and pencils. This piece is suppose to give a  humors expression of the early death of Steve Jobs but is still making accomplishments. The emotions is suppose to be happy and half-full kinda look.

When i started this intertextuality project what i thought what would be the best option was a 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Batman' mash-up by having the joker as a card knight. Soon i just choose to make a stitzel of the Joker to show his sort of ironic personality. I choose to make a stitzel to show the wildness of this iconic super-villain. On truth they have much in common ranging from the messy work to changing the color of my shoes.I wanted to show a deeper side of the Joker that most see but just brush off, his irony. The irony that even made him and Batman share a laugh. The irony of there is a little piece of him inside all of us.

This project was about using text in the form of art but with using words that affect people's culture. What is the most important thing about culture to me is 'education'. But most people would probable roll their eyes and say,"Yeah right out of all the things you could think of 'education' is the best you could come up with?" I will admit it was not exactly my first choice but i made this idea work. For those of you who could not see the word this piece is in fact just education. I used the fluid and curvy form of cursive, that is type of handwritten text that has been taken out of modern public schools. I used 'Old English' another hand written text type that has been taken out of education. But whats with the vines you might ask...those aren't exactly vines it is actually calligraphy a higher and only form of writing for important documents in the medieval era which was roughly 300ad-1800ad. I took a big risk on the ink knowing it will either be sharp and neat like calligraphy or be a hot mess. In my perspective it turned out nicely with and says so much then what it is at face value. The message of this is sort of saying,"Hey even though we are heading to paperless society we will still need this common skill of writing." Then again this is just one artist, with one word, and one picture with a few means. With this i will end my note by saying...Did you find the elephant?
